EARTHING REDUCES PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STRESS
Both forms of stress cause a less functioning immune system and dysregulated hormones. Stress is caused not only by work pressure, financial problems, the constant reception of information, relational problems, but also by radiation, electromagnetic fields, unhealthy lifestyles and conditions such as water and air pollution.

LIVING WITH UNNATURAL ENERGY 
All around us are electromagnetic radiation fields, which are man-made. In the home or office, for example, the walls contain electrical wires, electrical outlets and all (ungrounded) appliances with a plug in the wall. These cause radiation fields consisting of electrical and magnetic components that constantly change over time. These do not match and disturb the rhythm of our body's electrical signals. 

It is now known that more and more people are affected by electromagnetic radiation and they develop vague to serious complaints such as: .
* a feeling of restlessness, agitation
* a tingling sensation in uncovered parts of the body (head, hands, arms)
* symptoms of an upcoming cold (sneezing, swollen mucous membranes of nose/throat, sore throat, earache
* sleep problems and difficulty concentrating

Later symptoms may become more severe:
headaches, stomach aches, dizziness, overtiredness, strange pains, hyperventilation, allergies....

Earthing has a protective effect against electric fields which significantly reduces or even eliminates complaints.

EARTHING REDUCES THE INFLUENCE OF UNNATURAL ENERGY
When we ground while working at the computer and go to sleep grounded, we reduce the unnatural radiation fields on our body by more than 90%. As a result, our stress level goes down. Among other things, the effect is that the electrical voltage of all body cells improves so that nutrients can be better absorbed and waste products better disposed of. The electrical signals affect, for example, the nervous system, blood circulation, oxygen uptake, hormone balance, cell metabolism, and after a few nights of grounded sleep, the body will be nourished and strengthened in all cells.

EARTHING HAS A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Right now, our bodies make us function without our constant awareness. Breathing, the heart beating, maintaining blood pressure, food digestion; it is the job of the autonomic nervous system to direct these essential body processes with electrical signals. 

The autonomic nervous system has two modes:
The parasympathetic nervous system that takes care of relaxation. 
The sympathetic nervous system that takes care of preparing our body in a stressful situation. 

With earthing, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated. This can be measured by direct reduction in skin conductance, a measure of nervous system functioning. 

Normally, the parasympathetic part is more dominant than the sympathetic part. Once we encounter a stressful situation, the sympathetic nervous system is activated and our body produces the short-acting stress hormone adrenaline, which instantly makes us ready to fight or flee.

Shortly after the adrenaline rush, the body produces cortisol, which is also called stress hormone because it is released during any kind of stress, both physical and mental. Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands and restores hormone balance. The energy we quickly burn up under the influence of adrenaline is replenished via cortisol. The hormone cortisol causes blood sugar levels to rise, giving us energy and perseverance. 

EARTHING BALANCES THE RELEASE OF CORTISOL
The stress hormone cortisol keeps us in survival mode, but eventually depletes the adrenal glands. This constantly causes a feeling of tension in our body. All the energy goes to the ready situation of fight or flight; immunity is not important enough in this situation, causing the immune system to function less well. 
With earthing, the cortisol level regains a more natural course. This affects energy levels, sleep, and also the immune system will start working better again. 

CORTISOL LEVELS BEFORE AND AFTER EARTHING
In a study of the effect of earthing on cortisol levels, the following was seen in the graph: 
Graph A: In relaxed people, the secretion of cortisol follows a predictable 24-hour pattern. It is lowest around midnight and highest around 8am;

Graph B: the measurement of cortisol levels before subjects were grounded. This shows a wide variation of patterns across subjects;

Graph C: the measurement of cortisol levels shows the changed patterns of the same subjects after 8 weeks of grounding; a clear stabilization of cortisol release.
