WHAT IS EARTHING™?
Just as the sun gives us warmth and vitamin D, the Earth underfoot gives us food and water, a surface to walk, sit, stand, play, and build on, and something you maybe never thought about—an eternal, natural, and gentle energy. Call it vitamin G, G for ground. What does that mean to you? Maybe the difference between feeling good and not so good, between having little or a lot of energy, between sleeping well or not so well.
You can’t see the energy from the earth, but some people can feel it as a warm, tingling, and pleasant sensation when they are out walking barefoot along the water’s edge at the beach or on a damp grass field. There are old traditions of going for an early barefoot walk at dawn. The people did not do that just for fun, but for their health.
Throughout history humans walked barefoot and slept on the ground. But modern lifestyle, including the widespread use of insulative rubber- or plastic-soled shoes, has disconnected us from the Earth’s energy and, of course, we no longer sleep on the ground. We lost contact with the Earth and we have been decoupled from the healing energy of the Earth.
Fascinating new research has raised the possibility that this disconnect may actually contribute to chronic pain, fatigue, and poor sleep that plague so many people.

The remedy for the disconnect is simple. Walk barefoot outdoors whenever possible and/or sleep, work, or relax indoors in contact with conductive sheets or mats that transfer the energy to your body. Go barefoot outside for half an hour and see the difference it makes on your pain or stress level. It’s best to sit, stand or walk on grass, sand, dirt, paving stones or concrete. These are all conducting surfaces from which your body can draw the Earth’s energy. Wood, asphalt, vinyl and plastic floors won’t work, because they are not conductive.
WHY IS EARTHING SO IMPORTANT FOR YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
Your immune system protects you against invaders from outside, such as viruses and bacteria, and helps with the repair of damaged tissue. When there is a problem somewhere in the body, the white blood cells and other special cells hurry to the place as a first response.
Some of those cells give off free radicals, which help with the disposal of invading micro-organisms and the damaged tissue. Free radicals are positive charged molecules (they have a shortage of one or more electrons), who are always in search of free electrons. Normally they take these missing electrons away from the invaders and the damaged tissue and that way kill these unwanted guests or break down the damaged cells to be disposed of.
This immune response also is called inflammatory response and often gives the well-known symptoms of inflammation: swelling, warmth and pain, redness and depending on the place a movement restriction.
When this recovery process comes to an end, the surplus of free radicals will have to be neutralized by anti-oxidants or free electrons in the body. If there are not enough free electrons, then free radicals can affect healthy tissue, what will bring about another immune response. That way we end up in a vicious circle and chronic inflammation will arise, which is the cause of many modern chronic and auto-immune diseases and an accelerated aging processes.
Because the earth has a surplus of free electrons, Earthing is the excellent way to provide our body in the need of free electrons. That way we can break through the so called vicious circle.
